Type Approvals in the Republic of Kenya are regulated by the Communications Authority of Kenya situated in Nairobi. The authority manages the whole process of conformity assessment which makes it safe and transparent for an applicant. The conformity assessment system in Kenya accepts European documentation for further trouble-free market access. The homologation procedure in Kenya is more complicated than in most African countries. Depending on regulations and type of equipment, the authority may require product samples for further examination or simply issue an exemption letter. Validity period of conformity documents can be unlimited (exemption letters) or limited to 6 months (certificates of conformity) after which the authority issues an unlimited certificate automatically. However, there are no additional requirements on product labeling. IB-Lenhardt AG has a cooperation agreement with a local body that communicates directly with the responsible office at the authority and can thus obtain conformity documents in the shortest possible time.
