New Low-Interference Devices Regulation

Australia
Australia
, 2025-10-07
The Radiocommunications (Low Interference Potential Devices) Class Licence 2025 is now in force, replacing the 2015 licence.

License Scope and Supplier Compliance Requirements

This updated class licence allows low-power radio devices—such as Wi-Fi, radar, and telemetry equipment—to operate without individual licenses, as long as they comply with the specified technical and operational limits.

Suppliers are still required to meet compliance obligations before supply, including:

  • A valid Supplier’s Declaration of Conformity (SDoC)

  • Application of the Regulatory Compliance Mark (RCM)

Key Changes from the 2015 Class Licence

  • New: Access to the 5925–6425 MHz and 5925–6585 MHz frequency ranges for Wi-Fi 6E, Wi-Fi 7, and indoor RLANs (Schedule 1, Part 8, Table 8).

  • New: Allocation of the 24.25–25.1 GHz band for short-range data communications and 5G FR2 applications (Schedule 1, Part 8, Table 8).

  • Expanded: Millimeter-wave access extended to 71 GHz, beyond the previous 57–66 GHz limit, supporting ultra-high-speed Wi-Fi and RLAN use (Schedule 1, Part 8, Table 8).

  • Expanded: Formal inclusion of the 76–81 GHz band for radar and sensing technologies, expanding the previous 77–81 GHz range (Schedule 1, Part 9).

  • New: Authorization now includes the 122–123 GHz and 244–246 GHz bands for general low-power operation (Schedule 1, Part 1).
