OFCA assigned 24-28 GHz bands

Hong Kong's Office of the Communications Authority (OFCA) of Hong Kong has assigned 24-28 GHz bands to mobile operators.

There are two new standards set by Hong Kong's OFCA authority:

  • Type Acceptance Criteria for 5G New Radio Base Station Equipment operating in the 24.25 - 28.35 GHz Band.

  • Type Acceptance Criteria for 5G New Radio User Equipment operating in the 24.25 - 28.35 GHz Band.

New radio user equipment must fulfill:

  • Electrical Safety Requirements pursuant to HKCA 2001 "Compliance Test Specification - Safety and Electrical Protection Requirements for Subscriber Telecommunications Equipment".

  • Radio Frequency Safety Requirements applicable to public pursuant to Title 47, Chapter 1, Part 30, Subpart С, Section 30.207 of Code of Federal Regulations of USA.

Operating Frequencies are as follows:

  • Transmitting: 24.25 - 28.35 GHz

  • Receiving: 24.25 - 28.35 GHz

Technical requirements are stated in TS 38.521-2 titled "Third Generation Partnership Project; Technical Specification Group Radio Access Network; NR; User Equipment (UE) conformance specification; Radio transmission and reception; Part 2: Range 2 Standalone (Release 15)" published by the Third Generation Partnership Project (3GPP). Compliance of the equipment with the technical requirements must be evaluated in accordance with the procedures specified in this 3GPP specification.

New radio base station equipment must fulfill:

  • Receiving: 24.25 - 28.35 GHz

Compliance of the equipment with the technical requirements must be evaluated in accordance with the procedures specified in this 3GPP specification.
