European Commission Updates the RED Guide
The Radio Equipment Directive (RED) 2014/53/EU establishes the regulatory framework for placing radio equipment on the market. It covers requirements related to safety, health, electromagnetic compatibility (EMC), and efficient use of the radio spectrum, as well as aspects such as privacy protection, fraud prevention, interoperability, and access to emergency services.
The updated RED Guide, published in early October 2026, is a practical, non-binding resource intended to support the consistent application of these requirements. It is intended to be used together with the Blue Guide 2022.
The updated Guide includes guidance in the following areas:
Cybersecurity
Wireless cybersecurity requirements under Articles 3.3(d), 3.3(e), and 3.3(f)
Transition toward the Cyber Resilience Act (CRA)
Common Charger
Integration of Directive (EU) 2022/380
USB Type-C requirements
Power delivery requirements
Packaging and labeling requirements
Software Modifications and Repairs
Guidance on software updates and repairs
