Approval for Short-Range Radars that operate in the 57-71 GHz band (60 GHz band) is soon possible. Effective Date August 23, 2023.

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has taken a significant step in revising its rules to provide new opportunities for unlicensed field disturbance sensor (FDS) devices such as radar in the 57-71 GHz band, commonly known as the 60 GHz band. This decision is an important milestone in the ongoing expansion and refinement of the FCC's rules and heralds a new era for the development and deployment of state-of-the-art radar equipment.

The primary goal of this revision is to allow unlicensed FDS devices to operate more freely in the 60 GHz band while ensuring harmonious coexistence with other unlicensed technologies that also rely on this frequency band.
