  • EU (RE-D)European Commission released a proposal to amend the RE-D

    The European Commission released a proposal for amending the Radio Equipment Directive, RED - Directive 2014/53/EU. The proposal includes some further detailing on Article 3, especially focussing on the usage of charging devices and their interfaces.   • GeneralBluetooth SIG: LE Audio improves Bluetooth Audio Quality

    Bluetooth LE Audio is the audio connection of the future.

    While Bluetooth Classic Audio uses the A2DP profile with SBC codec, LE Audio uses the new LC3 codec standard, which is far superior to the SBC codec.

    Due to better compression, the sound is in higher quality and less power consuming.

    According to the TCRL 2021-1, the tests for the new LE Audio profiles becomes now active (13-Oct-2021) for Bluetooth Qualification.

  • VietnamNew Standard for 5G NR

    The Vietnamese Ministry of Information and Communications (MIC) has recently published the “National technical regulation on stand-alone 5G mobile communication network terminal equipment - Wireless access part”, Circular 06/2021/TT-BTTTT issuing QCVN 127:2021/BTTTT.

    Some of the main features are as follows:

    - QCVN 127:2021/BTTTT will take effect on Mar 01, 2022, but it will be mandatory from July 01, 2022. It means that from Mar 01, 2022 to July 01, 2022, the type approval certificates for 5G NR devices can be used under either QCVN 47:2015/BTTTT or QCVN 127:2021/BTTTT for the importation process.

    - The type approval certificates for 5G NR under QCVN 47:2015/BTTTT must be updated to QCVN 127:2021/BTTTT before July 01, 2022 in order to make sure that the importation process will go smoothly.

    - Based on QCVN 127:2021/BTTTT, the allowed bands for 5G NR in Vietnam will be n1, n3, n5, n8, n28, n40, n41, n77, n78 and n258

    - Based on QCVN 127:2021/BTTTT, all 5G mobile phones must support at least n1, n3, n28, n41, n77, n78, in which, n77 and n78 must only be available and activated when these bands are planned in Vietnam.

    Currently, the local labs don’t have the accreditation on testing QCVN 127:2021/BTTTT and the Vietnam Approval Authority has not issued the type approval certificate under this new standard yet.

  • TunisiaPublic consultation regarding 6 GHz WiFi

    ANF considers opening the lower part of the 6 GHz band (5925 - 6425 MHz) in order to facilitate better integration of radio local area networks ( RLAN) with other modern radio technologies and to meet the need for greater data transmission capacities. Interested stakeholders are invited to submit their feedback via email to consultation.publique@anf.tn until October, 30th 2021, 17:00 CET.

  • Saudi ArabiaCITC has published updated IMT regulatory document

    The Saudi Arabian Communications and Information Technology Commission (CITC) has published an updated document on the "Regulation and Allocation of Commercial Spectrum Brands Identified for the International Mobile Telecommunications (IMT)" in furtherance of its National Spectrum Strategy, which aims to unlock the potential of radio spectrum in Saudi Arabia by 2025 for a smarter and safer future. The updated regulatory IMT document is part of the implementation plan for CITC's Spectrum Outlook for Commercial and Innovative Use 2021-2023.

    This further strengthens CITC's strategic transition towards the role of a “Digital Regulator", and it is an expression of CITC's continuing support for the Kingdom's transformation into a digital society, with the aim of achieving a global leadership position in the field of radio communications and wireless technologies.
