Frequency Allocation Plan Update
The Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (ICASA) formally released the revised National Radio Frequency Plan 2026 (NRFP-2026) via Government Gazette No. 55046 on 24 July 2026, replacing the 2021 version and establishing the national framework for radio frequency spectrum allocation between 8.3 kHz and 3000 GHz.
This strategic update follows an extensive stakeholder consultation process initiated in April 2025, as reported by IB-Lenhardt, and ensures full alignment with international regulatory standards, including the ITU Radio Regulations (2024 Edition), African Telecommunications Union spectrum guidelines, and SADC regional frequency allocation protocols. The finalized framework incorporates revised South African National Footnotes and relevant international resolutions to maintain South Africa's compliance with global and regional regulatory developments.
The NRFP-2026 document is now accessible through ICASA's official portal, with a dedicated Electronic Frequency Information System scheduled for imminent deployment to support spectrum management activities.
