Mexico Will Replace IFT Under Newly Published Telecom Law
The Mexican government has published a law, formally dissolving Mexico’s telecom regulator IFT, once a new telecommunications agency has formed.
Mexico’s new Telecommunications and Broadcasting Law, published July 16 and effective July 17, 2025, mandates the dissolution of the Federal Telecommunications Institute (IFT).
The dissolution will commence once a new Telecommunications Regulatory Commission has been formed.
Pending cases will transfer accordingly. A 15-day suspension of proceedings will follow the new agency’s formation. Existing rules remain valid unless they conflict with the new law. A spectrum bidding plan is due within 180 days.
