PTA: New Regulations for SRDs & Terrestrial IoT Services

On February, 14th 2022, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) issued a new Regulatory Framework for Short Range Devices (SRD) and Terrestrial IoT Services. The document covers several strategy and development points, inter alia:

• Service Provisioning;
• Licensing;
• General Conditions;
• Radio Frequency Spectrums (relevant for short range devices / SRD, RLANs in 5 GHz band, ultra wide band devices / UWB, fixed services in 57-66 GHz range, long range IoT / LPWAN).

According to the Regulation, all above mentioned devices operating in the frequency bands declared in the document, are now subject to mandatory type approval procedure in Pakistan. This affects NFC Devices (13.56 MHz) as well.
