Digital Broadcasting Device Testing

Digital broadcasting technologies are gaining an ever larger share of the market. There is already an extensive range of programs on offer. Join us in bringing your digital broadcasting product to the world market.

Digital Broadcasting Equipment

Significance of Testing

We perform measurements for digital sound and TV broadcasting receivers according to the regulatory framework directive 2014/53/EU (RED). Digital TV and audio receivers are usually submitted to conformance testing procedures and robustness assessment, and their approval implies correct operation under a given ETSI specification protocol. Therefore, it is profitable for manufacturers to have corresponding tests carried out by experienced experts before entering the market in order to avoid malfunctions and weak points of the broadcasting device, which can lead to later warranty claims.

RED

Radio Equipment Directive 2014/53/EU

The Radio Equipment Directive establishes a legal framework for placing radio equipment on the market. It sets out essential requirements for health and safety, electromagnetic compatibility and the efficient use of the radio spectrum. It also forms the basis for other regulations governing some additional aspects. These include technical features for the protection of privacy, personal data and against fraud. Other aspects concern interoperability, access to emergency services and compliance with the rules for combining radio equipment and software.

All radio equipment falling within the scope of this directive and placed on the EU market must be compliant with this directive.

Regulatory Standards

The following standards are the most common for broadcast receivers in Europe, they are applied in the EU and are controlled by ETSI.

ETSI EN 303 345

(Broadcast Sound Receivers)

ETSI EN 303 340

(Digital Terrestrial TV Broadcast Receivers)

ETSI EN 301 489-1

(Electromagnetic Compatibility standard for radio equipment and services)

Digital Audio Broadcasting

Digital Audio Broadcasting (DAB) is the most widely adopted technology for digital radio broadcasting. DAB-based standards, including the recently developed DAB+ and DMB, support video and data services in addition to audio service.

Since December 21, 2020, all car radios that go on sale, as well as all other radios that have a Radio Data System, must be equipped with DAB+.

Digital Video Broadcasting

Digital Video Broadcasting - Terrestrial refers in technical terms to the standardized procedures for transmitting content, such as digital TV, radio, and teletext and other additional services, using digital technology. Digital television via antenna had replaced analog signal transmission since 2003. DVB-T television uses the UHF ("Ultra High Frequency") or VHF ("Very High Frequency") frequencies.

In 2019, DVB-T was replaced throughout Germany by DVB-T2 to enable high-definition (HD) television via antenna.

DVB-T is traditionally associated with multimedia home platform (MHP) and, more recently, hybrid broadcast broadband TV (HbbTV). DVB-T devices are TVs with integrated receiver or set-top box with DVB-T2 HD reception.
