EMC Requirements and E Marking
Depending on the product and installation context, electromagnetic compatibility is governed by Directive 2014/30/EU or UN Regulation No. 10.
Electrical and electronic sub-assemblies within the scope of UN Regulation No. 10 and intended for installation in vehicles must meet the applicable type-approval requirements. Testing assesses both electromagnetic emissions and immunity. The E mark documents approval under the applicable UN Regulation.
Technical Service for UN R10 Type Approval
Depending on the vehicle category, product function, and target market, different approval procedures may apply. IBL-Lab GmbH is designated by the German Federal Motor Transport Authority (KBA) as a Category A Technical Service for testing under UN Regulation No. 10. Based on our accreditation according to DIN EN ISO/IEC 17025:2018, we perform the required EMC testing for electrical and electronic vehicle components. Our testing scope includes:
UN Regulation No. 10, 06 series of amendments (Annexes 7–10 for electrical and electronic sub-assemblies)
Regulation (EU) No. 168/2013 and Delegated Regulation (EU) No. 44/2014 for L-category vehicles
Regulation (EU) No. 167/2013 and Delegated Regulation (EU) 2015/208 for agricultural and forestry vehicles
We support conformity assessment and product validation—from defining the required test scope to performing EMC testing.

Frequently Asked Questions
All you need to know about the homologation process
- What is Automotive Testing?
Automotive testing puts full vehicles, components and systems through a series of laboratory, virtual and 'real world' assessments to ensure it is safe, reliable and compliant with safety regulations.
- What does homologation mean?
Homologation is the granting of approval by an official authority. This may be a court of law, a government department, or an academic or professional body, any of which would normally work from a set of rules or standards to determine whether such approval should be given.
- Why is Vehicle Testing important?
Vehicle Homologation is important for compliance. Products must meet the safety requirements to receive access to the global automotive market. Homologation ensures the reliability and safety of the components, systems and full vehicles.
- How is a car homologated for another country?
In order to homologate a vehicle, a sample must be supplied for evaluation, supported by a large body of documented evidence provided by the original manufacturer, including inspection and test reports compiled by recognized laboratories or inspection authorities.
