ECE Test Mark

Approval Label of the Kraftfahrt-Bundesamt

Legislation requires compliance with the essential requirements for electromagnetic compatibility according to the 2014/30/EU or ECE-R-10 directives.

All electrical products intended for installation on motor vehicles require approval in accordance with the ECE Directive (Economic Commission for Europe) and the associated ECE test mark. The test examines whether the product's emitted interference as well as its immunity to interference are within the limit values. The marking is made with a large "E" and a number in a circle and indicates that a component on the vehicle is approved according to EU regulations.

Designated Body for ECE-R-10 Type Approval

Depending on the market conditions and the functionality of these products, different approval procedures may be required. In addition to an accredited laboratory in accordance with DIN EN ISO/IEC 17025:2018, IBL-Lab GmbH was designated by the KBA (Kraftfahrt-Bundesamt) as a Class A Technical Service for the ECE-R-10 type approval procedure on 1 February and is therefore authorized to carry out EMC tests according to the ECE directive. The automotive EMC testing scope includes the following regulations:

  • 97/24/EC Chapter 8 (Annexes V-VII)

  • 2009/64/EC (Annexes IX-XI)

  • Regulation (EU) 44/2014 * Regulation (EU) 2016/1824 (Annex VII) (ESA)

  • Regulation (EU) 2015/208 * Regulation (EU) 2016/1788 (Annex XV, Parts 6-8)

  • Regulation (EC) 661/2009 with regard to UN-R 10 * UN-R 10.06 (UN-R 10 Annexes 7-10 )

  • UN-R 10 Series 06 (Annexes 7-10)

Why is Vehicle Testing important?

Vehicle Homologation is important for compliance. Products must meet the safety requirements to receive access to the global automotive market. Homologation ensures the reliability and safety of the components, systems and full vehicles.

How is a car homologated for another country?

In order to homologate a vehicle, a sample must be supplied for evaluation, supported by a large body of documented evidence provided by the original manufacturer, including inspection and test reports compiled by recognized laboratories or inspection authorities.
