Line of Sight Calculator
Use this tool to determine the horizon distance from an antenna at a given height. It also calculates the radio horizon, assuming no obstacles between the antenna and the signal path.
Formula:
- dl = √(2Rh) ≈ 3.57 × √h
- dr = 4.12 × √h
Where:
- h = height of the antenna
- R = radius of the earth
- dl = total line of sight
- dr = radio horizon (actual service range)
This tool helps with:
Estimating the maximum line-of-sight distance based on antenna height.
Calculating the radio horizon, which defines the practical service range.
Assessing signal reach in wireless communication systems.
