Line of Sight Calculator

Use this tool to determine the horizon distance from an antenna at a given height. It also calculates the radio horizon, assuming no obstacles between the antenna and the signal path.

Line of Sight distance (dl): 0 km
Radio horizon (dr): 0 km

Formula:

  • dl = √(2Rh) ≈ 3.57 × √h
  • dr = 4.12 × √h

Where:

  • h = height of the antenna
  • R = radius of the earth
  • dl = total line of sight
  • dr = radio horizon (actual service range)

This tool helps with:

  • Estimating the maximum line-of-sight distance based on antenna height.

  • Calculating the radio horizon, which defines the practical service range.

  • Assessing signal reach in wireless communication systems.
