Japan Expands 433 MHz Range for TPMS and Keyless Entry Systems

On July 24, 2026, MIC promulgated an amendment to the Radio Equipment Regulations, which entered into force on the same date. The amendment reorganizes the provisions for specified low-power radio stations in the 433 MHz band and establishes tire pressure monitoring systems (TPMS) and keyless entry systems as independent categories of radio equipment.

The permitted frequency range for these systems has been expanded from 433.795–434.045 MHz to 433.05–434.79 MHz.

Existing Giteki approvals for products operating within the previous frequency range of 433.795–434.045 MHz remain valid, and recertification is not required.

A new Giteki certification is required only if a certified product is modified, notably by extending its operation into the newly permitted frequency range or enabling frequency hopping through a firmware update. Such changes are treated as design modifications under the revised regulations.
