Amendment to Harmonised Standards for Radio Equipment
The European Commission published Decision (EU) 2026/2003 on September 7, 2026, amending Decision (EU) 2022/2191 regarding harmonised standards under Directive 2014/53/EU, the Radio Equipment Directive (RED).
Under the RED, radio equipment that complies with harmonised standards referenced in the Official Journal of the European Union (OJEU) benefits from a presumption of conformity with the essential requirements covered by those standards.
The updated references include harmonised standards for several categories of radio equipment, including:
Radiodetermination equipment operating in the 2.4 GHz to 2.4835 GHz frequency range
Ultra-Wideband (UWB) Short Range Devices (SRD) installed in motor and railway vehicles
The new references were published in the OJEU on September 7, 2026.
At the same time, superseded references are scheduled to be withdrawn from the OJEU on March 7, 2028, providing a transition period between the existing and updated standards.
