EU Declaration of Conformity (DoC)

The Declaration of Conformity (DoC) is a formal statement issued by the manufacturer or authorized representative, declaring that a product complies with all applicable legal and technical requirements. It is a central element of the conformity assessment procedure.

European Union

In the EU, the DoC is mandatory under directives such as the Radio Equipment Directive (RED), Electromagnetic Compatibility Directive (EMCD), and Low Voltage Directive (LVD). It is a prerequisite for affixing the CE marking.

Key requirements include:

  • Identification of the product and manufacturer

  • Reference to the relevant harmonized standards or technical specifications

  • Name and signature of a responsible person

  • Retention of the document for ten years after placing the product on the market

  • Availability of the DoC in the official language of the Member State where the product is marketed

The DoC may physically accompany the product or be made available in accordance with EU legislation.

United States

A comparable concept exists under FCC rules in the form of the Supplier’s Declaration of Conformity (SDoC). While similar in purpose, the SDoC differs in scope and format and applies primarily to unintentional radiators.
