ARIB STD-T104
ARIB STD-T104 defines the technical requirements for LTE-Advanced (IMT-Advanced, 4G) systems in Japan. The standard aligns with 3GPP LTE-Advanced specifications but is adapted to Japan’s domestic frequency allocations and regulatory framework.
Scope and Application
The standard applies to public mobile communication networks and devices operating under Japan’s Radio Law. Compliance with STD-T104 ensures efficient spectrum use and interoperability of LTE-Advanced equipment in the Japanese market.
Frequency Bands and Operation
LTE-Advanced under STD-T104 is deployed in multiple Japanese IMT bands, including:
700 MHz
800 MHz
1.5 GHz
1.7 GHz
2 GHz
Key Technical Features
Carrier Aggregation for higher throughput
Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiple Access (OFDMA) downlink
Single-Carrier Frequency Division Multiple Access (SC-FDMA) uplink
Adapted revisions reflecting 3GPP Releases 10 through 13 (by 2017)
Certification and Labeling
All LTE-Advanced devices must be tested and certified by a Registered Certification Body (RCB) under Japan’s Radio Law. Approved devices bear the Giteki mark with the assigned certification number.
For support with testing and approval, see our → MIC Certification Services.
Note
A comprehensive overview of device categories, certification process, and Giteki marking can be found in the guide → MIC Requirements – Overview.
